Executive Director, KGSA Foundation
· Introduction:
The KGSA Foundation provides financial and technical assistance to support the Kibera Girls’ Soccer Academy (KGSA), a community center in the Kibera slums of Nairobi, Kenya. KGSA offers free secondary education to over 130 girls annually, in addition to artistic and athletic programming to the students, and microfinance opportunities to the families to help create a stronger, more resilient Kibera.
We are seeking to contract a talented and committed individual to continue the management duties of the KGSA Foundation and its trajectory of growth and professionalism: chiefly fundraising, cultivating and maintaining partnerships, increasing the organization’s profile in Kenya and in the United States, and administration of the organization. The Executive Director will lead, develop, and implement the KGSA Foundation’s fundraising strategy, steer our programmatic vision, and serve as the main liaison between the KGSA Foundation, KGSA, and the Board of Directors.

The KGSA Foundation is currently based in Saint Paul, MN, but is governed by a Board of Directors comprised of members from different parts of the country. Whether or not this position is based in Nairobi, Kenya or the United States, there will be travel between Kenya and the U.S.
· Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Development(55%)
* Work with the Board of Directors to identify an annual fundraising strategy to secure adequate funding for the operation of the organization. Must raise a minimum of $120,000 to meet the 2016 budget
* Seek out and manage relationships with high net-worth individuals, foundations, corporations, and current major donor partners and partnerships with assistance from the Board of Directors
* Research funding sources, oversee the development strategy, supervise the organization of fundraising campaigns and events, and write funding proposals to increase the funds of the organization
* Coordinate the design, printing and distribution of marketing and communication materials for development efforts
Administrative / Communications(20%)
* Direct responsible financial stewardship for the organization
* Develop and maintain accounting systems
* Further organizational promotion, public relations, and internal reporting systems
* Oversee management of the KGSA Foundation and Kibera Girls’ Soccer Academy website and social media platforms
* Create and maintain a system to properly thank donors
Leadership and Management(25%)
* Develop a relationship with the Kenyan leaders and staff and serve as the main liaison between the KGSA Foundation, the Kibera Girls’ Soccer Academy, and the Board of Directors
* Collaborate with the Board of Directors to implement the KGSA Foundation’s strategic plan while ensuring that the budget and priorities are aligned with our core mission
* Core oversight and organizational leadership
* Develop future leadership; play active role in developing board leadership
* Provide direction and encouragement to the board
· Qualifications:
o University degree required; MBA, MPH, MDP or other related advanced degrees will be considered with preference
o Professional experience in the non-profit sector with a focus on international development
o Fundraising and grant writing experience in a non-profit is highly desirable
o Extended international field experience, preferably in Eastern Africa and in urban slum environments
o An ability to develop new and unique ways to improve operations of the organization and to create new opportunities
o Possesses a passion for and knowledge of gender equality, poverty reduction and responsiveness to community empowerment/engagement
o Desire to work in close collaboration with the Kibera community and leadership team
o Strategic thinker and strong interpersonal skills
· Selection Process and Timeline:
o The Board will begin reviewing Proposals and Resumes after December 10, 2015. We will continue the process until the position is filled
o Foundation Chair will begin contacting viable candidates as soon as January 1, 2016
o Sharing of detailed KGSA Foundation financial information will occur with selected candidates

o Any timeframes or deadlines included in this Request for Proposal are for planning purposes only, and shall not be considered binding deadlines
o The parties acknowledge and agree that KGSA Foundation reserves the right to change the application process, including changes to the timeline and selection criteria, at any time, with or without prior notice
· Compensation and Benefits:
o Salary commensurate with experience and subject to increase with the organization’s growth. Current ED salary $36,600.00
o Monthly stipend for health insurance coverage
o Travel, travel insurance and expense reimbursement to and from Nairobi, Kenya
o 3 weeks paid vacation each year
