Plan International is an implementing partner of the Room to Learn (RtL) South Sudan project funded by USAID.
Room to Learn South Sudan is a five-year program aims to offer access to quality education for children and youths, with a special focus on increasing access to the most disadvantaged groups.
The project aims to reach children by either directly enrolling them in school or improving retention by addressing the quality, safety and relevance of their instruction. There is also a focus on distance learning, such as radio instruction, for the hardest to reach populations.
Plan has been working in South Sudan, including before its independence, since 2006 - helping poor children to access their rights to education, health, protection and economic security.
The Role
In this varied role you will lead and oversee emergency preparedness activities for the RtL project and be responsible for the technical direction and quality of Plan’s emergency preparedness work in the RtL project.
You will also be required to participate in developing content and training materials for school based emergency preparedness and manage/facilitate Emergency Preparedness training in coordination with the broader RtL program.
As part of the role you will provide input to the annual work plan and quarterly reports and ensure compliance with donors and Plan policy requirements.
Do you have what it takes?
In order to succeed in this role you will require experience in the education sector in the area of education quality. Experience of facilitating trainings and/or developing training manuals, especially with specific experience in DRR and emergency preparedness is also essential.
Knowledge of current key developments and situation in disasters, response and preparedness in education sector is also advantageous. In particular in a South Sudan context.
Previous experience of working on USAID-funded programs is preferred.
As a child rights organisation, demonstrable understanding of the child-rights framework and standards for child protection is preferred but not essential.
Excellent English skills both verbal and written
This role involves frequent interaction with children
Type of Role: 1 year fixed term contract with a possibility of extension
Location:Juba with extensive travels across program areas
Reports to: Head of Programmes
