WWF Country Director - WWF-Mongolia Programme

Role

Country Director for our WWF MONGOLIA Programme Office. He/ She will provide effective leadership to Programme Managers and Directors of WWF Mongolia offices. If you have proven leadership skills, experience in influencing key stakeholders in the region and a PASSION for conservation, this might just be the job for you!

WWF  Office in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia

Main responsibilities

  • Provides vision and leadership for the WWF programme in Mongolia and effective representation of WWF with key audiences to build strength and support for the programme.
  • Provides leadership to and ensures the implementation of  long-term conservation objectives and strategic plans for the Mongolian Programme that makes relevant contributions to WWF's Global Conservation Programme as approved by the Subcommittee in line with the overall strategic plan for the Asia Pacific Programme of WWF lnternational.
  • Ensures the development of financial support (fund raising) and effective implementation of a 5-year business plan (as part of the Strategic Plan) for WWF's programme in Mongolia
  • lmplements a monitoring and reporting system for the WWF conservation programme in Mongolia, based on standards set for conservation project and programme planning and provides regular updates and reports on contributions towards WWF's Global Conservation programme to the GMS (Global Monitoring System).
  • Builds & ensures effective communication and collaboration with national governments, international agencies, and other non-governmental organisations.
  • Promotes regional and international attention to important conservation programmes in Mongolia and influences national policies that promotes their long-term sustainability
  • Ensures that WWF-Mongolia’s activities comply with all relevant legal & financial reporting guidelines and standard requirements, ethical guidelines, and WWF’s Compact Agreement and Fraud and Corruption Policy;

What you need

Required Qualifications

  • A higher degree (PhD or Masters) in conservation, natural resources management, natural sciences or a related field.  Relevant work experience in conservation may be substituted for higher academic qualification;
  • Technical proficiency in the field of conservation, natural-resource management or international development, with at least 10 years professional experience, 3-5 years of which should be in the country, with demonstrated success in managing multi-disciplinary teams.
  • A minimum of 5 years in a leadership and/or management position, running a multi-disciplinary office, with proven familiarity with operational, financial, fundraising, and communications aspects of a complex programme.

  • Strong skills in project planning, financing, implementation and evaluation.
  • Ability to liase effectively with local communities and governments.
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills in English and the relevant local working language.
  • Good communication and negotiation skills,
  • Ability to work in a team and motivate staff and stakeholders
