Research Officer, REACH India

The position will be based in New Delhi, India with occasional travel to and within Uttar Pradesh and Bihar and report to the Chief of Party- REACH India.

The position will be a part of the International Development Group’s (IDG’s) Global Health Division (GHD). GHD’s over 400 staff members work in over 25 countries. GHD implements broad-based programs in infectious diseases -specifically Neglected Tropical Diseases, HIV and AIDS, and Malaria; Integrated Family Health and Heath Systems Strengthening - including Health Governance, Health Finance, and Human Resources for Health, Capacity Building, and Health Policy and Advocacy; and Public-Private Partnerships.
Responsibilities:
  • Undertake analysis of facility and provider surveys, and the community survey to be implemented under the project and other related datasets;
  • Contribute to preparation of study protocols, research tools, guides, and manuals;
  • Conduct field tests and pilots for various survey questionnaires and guidelines;
  • Develop data entry format for primary data collected from the field;
  • Ensure timely completion of data entry, analysis, and reports;
  • Provide statistical assistance to UP and Bihar Technical Support Units with data analyses;
  • Develop slide decks and fact sheets for the partners to use in their meetings, and support communication of findings to the partners in a timely fashion and promote utilization;
  • Support various duties as assigned which may include program performance evaluation and other global health research and development tasks;
  • Undertake literature reviews and summarize them in a format that is relevant to the program and can be readily shared with the partners;
  • Perform other tasks as assigned by the Chief of Party.
Education and Experience:
  • Masters level degree in Statistics or Biostatistics and a minimum of 3 years of experience in research and evaluation or;
  • Ph.D. in any of the above mentioned disciplines plus 1-2 years of experience would be desirable.
Knowledge and Skills:
  • Experience of handling large scale/ small scale surveys in public health, and large scale secondary data sources like NFHS, AHS, DLHS;
  • Experience in working on data analysis software like STATA, SAS, SPSS, R, etc.;
  • Previous experience with quantitative and qualitative research methods;
  • Familiarity with survey statistics, survey research, and concepts such as sample design, weighting, variance estimation, response rates, and nonresponse bias;
  • Ability to assess the quality of data and statistical information collected in an M&E system, i.e., have an understanding of reliability and validity;
  • Ability to produce thorough, high quality work within a tight timeframe;
  • Flexibility and ability to handle multiple tasks and work collaboratively within a matrix-oriented environment;
  • Self-motivated with ability to work independently with minimal supervision in a team environment;
  • Publications in peer reviewed journal preferred;
  • Excellent skills in oral and written communications (both English and Hindi);
  • Knowledge of childhood diarrhea and pneumonia management preferred.
