People & Operations Manager-India

It is an exciting time to join VSO India. VSO India plays a critical role in the development scenario as it works for the poorest and most marginalised sections of society. VSO’s work centres around three aspects, Programming, Volunteering and Advocacy. The unique space that VSO India holds is about mobilising skilled human resource as an intrinsic input into development projects. This serves to strengthen the quality of the programme delivery by addressing capacity gaps of the partner and the programme.
The next decade of VSO in India will be one of focus on bringing development innovations to scale; working as the VSO India Trust; mobilising youth as innovators of entrepreneurial solutions to development problems; and forming corporate and public-private partnerships that not only mentor youth but provide frameworks for bringing those innovations to scale – either through business models or transition into public services. At the heart of that will be a focus on girls access to education and women’s economic empowerment, specifically benefiting women and girls with disability or women from scheduled groups, particularly in rural India.
Role overview
As a senior member of the Country leadership team, the primary purpose of this role is to lead, develop, and manage the Country Office (CO) people function and Office support operations in line with VSO India strategy. You are to ensure effective operation of the CO people and operational support functions which includes employees and volunteers, ensuring good people management practice, an efficient customer care service and adherence to global and local policies and procedures. As part of the Global People Group, you are to report to the Country Director and matrix report to the Regional People Manager ( Central, East and South Asia) to implement the people plan to deliver high performance, change and transformation.
Skills, qualifications and experience required
You should have extensive experience in the Human Resource practice with demonstrable experience at the management level. Your skills and experience of people/team management is key to success in ensuring the effective and efficient operations of both People and Operational Support functions in the country office. You must be an effective communicator and have adequate relationship building and change management skills in order to add value to the Country Office implementation of the VSO strategy.
You should be self-organised with ability to manage time and tight schedules, working effectively under pressure. You must be able to work on your own initiative, with a creative approach to problem solving and a strong level of attention to detail.
