Economist/Economic Analyst

Reports to: Director of Policy & External Affairs
Summary of role
  • Develop innovative economic research papers, supporting ACE’s lobbying activities;
  • Improve, develop and research new methods of presenting and communicating data and research material for ACE including the wider group;
  • Manage ACE’s benchmarking programme;
  • Manage and provide oversight of ACE's programme of Sector Interest Groups;
  • Provide support where economic or analytical insight is required such as presentations, briefings for meetings and corporate plan development;
  • Manage ACE’s surveys and analytics of data;
  • Work with ACE senior management staff and key industry stakeholders in developing and delivering business enhancement services to ACE members.
Responsibilities:
  • Develop innovative economic research papers, supporting ACE’s lobbying activities;
  • Improve, develop and research new methods of presenting and communicating data and research material;
  • Assess the impact of economic and policy developments on ACE member companies and the wider industry, such as Budget, CSR and Autumn Statement announcements;
  • Provide support on initiatives such as NIPSEF and the economic roundtables;
  • Manage the ACE Benchmarking products and support where required the delivery of the European CEO Conference;
  • Manage ACE’s surveys and analytics of data to ensure that the quality of analysis remains high and that surveys are distributed on a reasonable basis to the membership base;
  • Manage and provide oversight for Sector Interest Group meetings and related activities;
  • Ensure that ACE keeps abreast and ahead of industry changes and to identify the key priorities facing ACE members' businesses;
  • Provide support where economic or analytical insight is required such as presentations, briefings for meetings and corporate plan development;
  • Represent ACE on key industry and business bodies as and when required;
  • Develop and deliver an economic and business information resource for ACE members, including the Quarterly Economic Bulletin and the relevant sections of the ACE web site;
  • Contribute to the production of policy positions that represent the views of ACE’s member companies;
  • Support other areas of the ACE business in developing and driving activities in pursuit of the ACE corporate plan.
Person specification:
  • A 2:1 or above in economics or a joint honours degree with a minimum of 50% economic content with two to three years’ experience;
  • A good knowledge of data analysis techniques and statistics and the ability to develop, implement, and evaluate opinion surveys and related data collection;
  • Excellent IT skills including the ability to use SPSS/SAS or an equivalent analytical package;
  • A demonstrable interest in engineering and the built environment;
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (including strong written English) and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of stakeholders;
  • Ability to develop and deliver presentations;
  • Ability to organise, prioritise and schedule work assignments;
  • Ability to work in a team, and manage own workload.
