Transparency International (TI) is the global civil society organisation leading the fight against corruption. Through more than 100 chapters worldwide and an international secretariat in Berlin, Germany, TI raises awareness of the damaging effects of corruption and works with partners in government, business and civil society to develop and implement effective measures to tackle it.

The Global Advocacy and Policy (GAP) team works within the TI-Secretariat and with the worldwide movement of TI National Chapters to design and implement strategies that change policies and attitudes on the local, national and international level. We do this by inspiring and supporting partners and change-makers to take action and by gathering and distilling voices, experiences and evidence from across the movement into clear, targeted and cohesive messages that are strategically pushed in selected global platforms.

Main function: 

The Assistant works to deliver defined tasks or work packages within projects/ assignments related to the key global advocacy themes of the GAP Department. S/he provides logistical, administrative, documentation, archiving, travel, budget tracking, planning and other types of support to the department’s advocacy and policy activities. The Assistant undertakes desk research, information gathering and preparation of communication items including policy position papers, briefings, speaking points for presentations to global meetings.

Responsibilities:

• Provide general support in preparation of documents and other work outputs, incl. the production of short research briefs and speaking points
• Provide assistance in the organisation of events (workshops, meetings, media launches, training, etc.)
• Provide general administrative assistance in day-to-day operations (processing of invoices, budget management and tracking, contract management, etc.)
• Liaise with and help coordinate TI chapters develop and implement country-level activities to further advocacy objectives
• Undertake desk research and investigate advocacy opportunities in particular relating to public and private sector transparency and open data related issues
• Assist in gathering data and information to produce accurate, on time financial reporting and supporting narrative
• Assist with Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning
• Maintain up-to-date, organised and accurate electronic filing systems
• Coordinate travel by TI-S staff, Chapter Representatives or external consultants

Knowledge, experience and skills:

• Undergraduate university degree or professional qualification in social science, administration, journalism, economics, management, or another relevant field
• 1+ years of relevant experience with an International NGO, International Organisation, or Multinational Organisation working on administrative support or another relevant field
• Demonstrated budgeting and finance skills
• Excellent organizational skills as well as flexibility and ability to work under pressure and against tight deadlines
• Strong communication skills and ability to work both in a team as well as independently
• Complete fluency in both spoken and written English essential; additional languages an asset
• Knowledge of corporate and public transparency initiatives an advantage
• Knowledge of open data and its uses an advantage
• High level of intercultural competence, diplomacy and political sensitivity
