This position is located within the Security Sector Reform (SSR) Unit in the Office of Rule of Law and Security Institutions (OROLSI), Department of Peacekeeping Operations (DPKO), United Nations Headquarters. The SSR Officer reports to the Chief of the SSR Unit, and/or his delegate.

Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) security sector management, international relations, business administration or a related field. A first-level university degree in combination with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

A minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in the area of security sector reform (SSR) or related area. Experience in SSR at the sector-wide level is required. Experience in the coordination, development and implementation of SSR programmes and projects in post-conflict contexts is desirable. Experience providing technical support in the area of SSR to peacekeeping missions is desirable. Experience in the facilitation of recognised SSR-related training courses is desirable.

Fluency in one of the working languages of the UN Secretariat, English or French, (both oral and written) is required; knowledge of the other is desirable. Knowledge of another UN official language is an advantage.
