The Clean Clothes Campaign is dedicated to improving working conditions in the global garment industry. In the twenty years of our existence an extensive and effective global network of some 250 trade unions and NGO's has been created, with campaign secretariats in 16 European countries. Our office in Amsterdam is shared by two highly motivated teams: the Clean Clothes Campaign International Secretariat (CCC) and the Dutch Secretariat, the Schone Kleren Campagne (SKC). Job description
Based at the International Secretariat of the Clean Clothes Campaign (Amsterdam) you will be responsible for leading the development of strategic policies and best practice for the Clean Clothes Campaign network.
Working within the framework of CCCs newly developed global network structure you will work with members of the International Secretariat and the network to develop policies around network interaction and expansion; make strategic decisions regarding the interaction with partners, allies and possible network members; provide the support necessary to build and sustain relationships within the network; and provide guidance on, and in some instances, undertake communication with the network and allies to enable greater cohesiveness and a strong network base for the ongoing work of CCC.

In addition you will lead on the strategy development and network communication around the Living Wage campaign, ensuring partners are empowered and up to date on campaign developments, have the guidance, materials and resources required to be able to successfully campaign on the issues and carry out the necessary advocacy, campaign and lobby work. This includes representing the CCC at international meetings and events as well as ensure that strategic communication materials are developed. This campaign runs till the end of 2015. For 2016 and further the focus still has to be determined.
Tasks and responsibilities include:
  • You will develop policy around network development and communication, including identifying and addressing possible areas of conflict and guidelines for future network membership;
  • You will build relationships with the members of the network, identifying their needs and developing and maintaining lines of communication both with, and between, network members; at the same time you will maintain a more regular contact with all partners in the Living Wage campaign
  • You will work with staff of the International Secretariat to develop and implement a communications strategy for the network and contribute to the maintenance of shared tools to maintain the network - including the network's intranet (Insite) and database;
  • In the Living Wage campaign you will ensure regular lobby and campaign updates and knowledge sharing on activities and opportunities arising
  • You work with the Living Wage coordinator to ensure the successful implementation of the Living Wage campaign.
  • You will maintain regular contacts with other appropriate organisations (including global trade unions and NGO allies) in order to ensure that the network can maximise its range of contacts and impact;
  • You initiate the development and oversee the implementation of tools to improve the knowledge exchange between partners;
  • You take part in IS meetings, staff meetings, planning activities and general organisational related responsibilities.
We ask:
  • at least five years experience in a relevant position;
  • an in depth knowledge of the operation of international networks and the network approach to organizing;
  • a proven ability to energize and engage a network;
  • knowledge of garment industry and labour rights issues
  • strong communication skills both orally and in writing, including knowing how to deal with political sensitive issues
  • understanding of databases and digital communication tools
  • native or at least near-native speaker level English skills;
  • ability to work in a stressful environment
  • willingness and ability to undertake overseas travel
  • have a valid work and residence permit for the Netherlands/EU
We offer:

  • Within Clean Clothes Campaign all staff earn the same salary regardless of position, seniority or age. For 2014 the salary is set at EU2537 gross per month for a 32-hour work week and 8% holiday pay;
