The Smart Fishing Initiative (SFI) is one of WWF’ 13 Global Initiatives that strives to protect and restore marine biodiversity and ecosystem health through making large-scale commercial fishing around the world sustainable.

WWF Global Initiatives (GIs) are aimed at bringing the combined resources of the global conservation organization together around shared priorities. They help bring about transformational change which involves a sustained shift in behavior of key sectors of society that reduces a threat or driver. 

The Smart Fishing Initiative based in Hamburg, Germany, is looking for an in full time working, limited until June 30th 2017, preferably located inSingapore, other options considered, qualified and motivated

Senior Finance/Investment Manager (m/f)

Job Description:

The Senior WWF Finance / Investment Manager for Fisheries, in close cooperation with other Marine GIs, the Global Marine Program and the Market Transformation GI, aims to transform the Seafood and Fisheries Finance and Investment Businesses to support restoration of fish-stocks and marine ecosystems to enable sustainability and long-term resource and social security.

The Manager will coordinate the SFI-Finance Strategy which includes three main global work-streams: i) develop sustainability criteria and guidelines for investors investing into fisheries and seafood; ii) develop tools to transform the Finance Industry and motivate for sustainable investment and iii) implement institutional models to enable and steer sustainable investments in all relevant global oceans.

The position will coordinate, adjust and implement together with WWF´s network the WWF-SFI-Finance Strategy. This includes:
  • The development of sustainability criteria and guidelines for investors investing into fisheries, seafood and restoration of marine ecosystems;
  • The development of powerful tools (risk based and/or reward based) to transform the Finance Industry and motivate for sustainable investment, like benchmarking brand-sensitive Finance Businesses against the WWF sustainable Finance criteria and
  • The support for the implementation of institutional models (the “FIRME” approach) to enable and steer sustainable investments in all relevant global oceans and create models to prove the business case of sustainable investment strategies and to facilitate protection of key habitat for overall ecosystem function
  • Strategically align with GMP, MTI, and other relevant WWF thematic coordination mechanisms with regards to Financial Institutions and Marine, Fisheries and Seafood by coordinating with relevant staff and WWF entities across the entire WWF Network.
  • Coordinate with country and regional offices and place-based marine GI’s and initiatives to ensure embedding and alignment of the Finance Strategy
  • Develop together with key WWF network colleagues business and workplans to accomplish stated objectives and specific models of the global WWF SFI Finance Strategy
  • Communicate internal and externally on SFI Finance Strategy
  • Engage with key WWF colleagues and the Finance and Investment Sector to build powerful partnerships to implement the transformational WWF Finance Strategy
  • Monitor, evaluate and document/report the Finance Strategy implementation and adjust the planning as appropriate
  • Provide budget oversight and control and when required seek opportunities for and develop funding proposals to enable the implementation of the Finance Strategy

Requirements:

  • Relevant University Degree
  • At least 7 years of experience and engagement in the Finance Sector and the management of all stages of project cycles of complex projects, across different countries and cultures
  • Demonstrated experience and engagement in conservation and/or social equity
  • Demonstrated ability to accomplish tasks and missions
  • Excellent inter-personal skills including advanced experience in presentation and facilitation
  • Solid demonstrable knowledge and understanding of Economics and Finance and global In-vestment tools
  • Excellent English in written and oral communication
  • Willingness to travel frequently and internationally

  • Fluency in an Asian language advantageous
