IICD Foundation is a Dutch-based NGO active in the field of ICT for development.
IICD is a non-profit foundation specialised in the use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) as a tool for development and change. Whether it is about supporting SMS campaigns for Peruvian female farmers, equipping Malian nurses with mobile phones to combat Malaria or supporting overburdened Kenyan classrooms with ICT-enhanced teaching methods, IICD aims to empower people to take charge of their own development by fostering social innovation and entrepreneurialism. To support our marketing and communication activities, IICD is offering a position as:
Marketing Specialist
As IICD's marketing specialist you are continuously spotting and making use of opportunities to position IICD's activities with relevant and critical target audiences. You make use of the most appropriate (digital) platforms to support the promotion of IICD's programmes, products and solutions through smartly reaching out to the target audiences. You are generating exposure for IICD's work in media through free publicity and advertisements.
The marketing specialist will report to the Community Relations Director and will collaborate intensively with the cross-media officer, the team working on business development (located in the Hague and programme countries) and the IT support officer.
Summary of key responsibilities
  • Liaison with press (includes writing press releases);
  • Overseeing development of corporate websites and related house-style;
  • Marketing (includes branded content) of IICD's activities, products, solutions;
  • Satisfaction surveys on IICD's services with clients and funders;
  • B2B marketing of IICD's activities, products, solutions;
  • Development of outstanding promotional presentations (e.g. video, print, websites);
  • Maintenance, improvement and growth of email marketing tools (e.g. Mailing lists, FlashPanel, Logon4D, Customer Relation Management tools);
  • Development of relevant communication and marketing plans targeting predefined audiences;
  • Operationalising and overseeing marketing research activities;
  • Advising and instructing IICD staff on operationalisation of marketing strategies in their networks;
  • Advising management team on annual and multi-year marketing strategies;
  • Track media features (i.e. benchmarking);
  • Report on results of IICD's marketing activities.
Specific knowledge, skills and abilities
  • MA in Marketing or a related field;
  • At least 6 years of professional experience as a marketing specialist;
  • Track record of successful marketing activities in international environments;
  • Quick learner, grasp complex content easily and you have the skill to perfectly translate complicated issues into understandable and attractive marketing activities;
  • Access to a large relevant network (e.g. creatives, international media relations);
  • Excellent spoken and written English (native or near-native speaker is a plus);
  • Proficiency in Dutch is a plus;
  • Knowledge of ICT for development work is a great advantage;
  • Significant knowledge of on- and offline marketing methodologies and experience with operationalising them;
  • Positive thinker, persuasive, proactive, results-driven, creative, enthusiastic, flexible and an independent worker;
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal;
  • You are in the possession of an EU/Dutch work permit.
