Communications Expert - Nicaragua

Internews Network is seeking a Communications Expert candidate for a potential USAID-funded media support initiative with the general goal of strengthening independent media, enhancing research and policy analysis, and dissemination of independent information in Nicaragua.
Communications Expert will support the project to provide comprehensive technical expertise to Nicaraguan media outlets and other partners in the use of innovative technologies to disseminate messages to broad and diverse audiences (YouTube TV channels, SMA, podcasts, etc.) throughout the country. The Communications Expert will develop strategies to integrate into media and social marketing activities themes and topics on a variety of issues, including gender equity and gender-based violence. This position will also provide advisory support through web-based and in-person training activities on media and innovative technology.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
  • Provide technical expertise to project management team in relevant program design issues
  • Design and conduct technical trainings on social media and technology
  • Develop and maintain a keen understanding of challenges and issues facing effective media and communications in Nicaragua
  • Work with the project management, local partners and local staff to conceive directions for growth of current projects and devise new strategies to assist Nicaraguan media
  • Cultivate relationships with relevant local and international media and other partners
  • Support efforts in project planning, budgeting, and administrative issues.
Qualifications:
  • Five years’ (minimum) experience in leveraging innovative technology and social marketing tools to deliver key messages
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the Nicaraguan media and technology landscape
  • Experience with international donor-funded development projects, particularly in Nicaragua and/or Latin American countries, desired;
  • Relevant professional and/or academic background in media- or communications-related field;
  • Experience in designing, planning, managing, and delivering technical assistance, technical training, and consultations;
  • Demonstrated effective interpersonal skills, pro-activeness, creative problem-solving and ethical management;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills;
  • Spanish and English language proficiency required;
  • Strong critical thinking and writing skills; and
  • Excellent communication skills.
