Head of Bristol Brussels Office

Bristol City Council

Brussels, Belgium

This is a unique opportunity – to become the first official representative of the city of Bristol based primarily in Brussels and offered on a consultancy basis with flexible terms and a competitive package for up to 3 years. The role is focussed on European and International funding opportunities and as well as the impact of European policy and legislation on the city. As Bristol becomes European Green Capital 2015, you will ensure we make the most of this accolade, including winning multi-million pound grant funding.

To succeed in this role, you will need an in-depth understanding of European affairs gained through extensive experience of working with European and International institutions and ideally with experience in local government or an equally complex UK public sector organisation. Graduate calibre or with an equivalent professional qualification, you will be fluent in English with a good working knowledge of French and experience of securing external grant funding from European and international sources.

Bristol is looking to define our presence on the international stage and build on the legacy of becoming an inaugural member of the Rockerfeller Foundation’s 100 Resilient Cities Network. We also signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding with Guangzhou, China as part of the EU China Urbanisation Partnership and are one of only two UK cities on the EU-China smart city forum so this is an exciting time to be involved in developing our international presence.
