Organ:
The Telecommunication Development Bureau (BDT) is responsible for the organization and coordination of the work of the Telecommunication Development Sector of the Union (the Union has three functional sectors: Standardization, Radiocommunication and Development) which deals mainly with development policies, strategies, programming, as well as technical cooperation activities (expert missions, training programmes, field projects, seminars, etc.).
Main Tasks and Responsibilities of the Internship
The objective of the BDT Communications and Promotion Service is to design and implement communication strategies to promote the work of BDT. In 2016 the Communications and Promotion Service will start to develop products in preparation for the Regional Preparatory Meetings (RPMs) and the World Telecommunication Development Conference (WTDC-2017).

The Communications and Promotion intern will gain professional experience in communications and promotion by:

  • Assisting the Communications and Promotion team in implementing the communications strategy of the ITU Telecommunications Development Bureau (BDT) using new and traditional media;
  • Assisting the Communications and Promotion team in drafting communications products, such as press releases, web stories, information notes, fact sheets, newsletters, and blogs;
  • Proactively scrutinizing news and press briefings on a daily basis and carrying out desk research on all political, economic and financial issues related to information technologies and helping prepare media monitoring reports 
  • Taking on other special projects as assigned.
  • Qualifications required
    Education:
    University degree in journalism, communications or public relations.
    Languages:
    Knowledge of one of the UN six official languages (Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish)
    Competencies:
    Good writing and reporting skills
    Knowledge of social media
    Ability to manage multiple simultaneous projects and to meet tight deadlines
    Additional Information:
    The Telecommunication Development Bureau (BDT) is responsible for the organization and coordination of the work of the Telecommunication Development Sector of the Union which deals mainly with development policies, strategies, programming, as well as technical cooperation activities.
    The internship provides practical educational experience and an opportunity to work in a multicultural, intergovernmental organization. Under supervision, interns are assigned projects and tasks that are relevant to their educational background and interests and provide them with the opportunity to apply and further develop their knowledge and experience.

  • Please note that a non-remunerated Internship position at ITU does not carry the same conditions of employment as a Short term or a Fixed term position. Mandatory Medical Insurance, travel expenses, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of the interns or sponsoring institutions.
