Regional Humanitarian Manager - Africa

Salary: Starting from £31,416 per annum
Islamic Relief Worldwide is looking to recruit a Regional Humanitarian Manager, based in a field office in Africa. The Regional Humanitarian Manager will deliver high quality humanitarian programming in line with Islamic Relief Worldwide’s regional strategy, through positive leadership, management and support. You will lead and be responsible for the implementation & review of the overall humanitarian strategy for the region, and act as the regional lead for humanitarian work, liaise effectively with relevant staff. S/he will provide active leadership throughout the region to promote and support all aspects of preparedness planning and action at country and regional level, and keep them under systematic review.
The Regional Humanitarian Manager will lead the continual development, review and implementation of Islamic Relief Worldwide’s regional preparedness and contingency planning, in close liaison with country staff and Regional Director. You will coordinate disaster preparedness through the ALERT system in coordination with partners and with the support of the DPP/DRP Coordinator. S/he will make sure learning from these reviews and evaluation effectively informs future responses, through adequate dissemination within Islamic Relief Worldwide and inclusion in potential training. You will contribute to improvement in understanding of staff within the region regarding Islamic Relief Worldwide’s key humanitarian policy & advocacy positions.
The successful candidate will have at least five years’ experience of humanitarian response and preparedness planning work in a range of environments - including experience of field-level management of complex humanitarian response programmes and all phases of the project/programme cycle. You will have excellent communication skills in English and IT skills with proven research, data collection, collating, writing and presentation skills. The successful candidate will have experience of humanitarian advocacy, representation and communications with evidence of impact or influencing policy makers. The candidate will be willing to travel frequently and be a good team worker with leadership ability to build effective working relationships and establish credibility with colleagues and outside agencies.
