Plan International is an implementing partner of the Room to Learn (RtL) South Sudan project funded by USAID.
Room to Learn South Sudan is a five-year program aims to offer access to quality education for children and youths, with a special focus on increasing access to the most disadvantaged groups.
The project aims to reach children by either directly enrolling them in school or improving retention by addressing the quality, safety and relevance of their instruction. There is also a focus on distance learning, such as radio instruction, for the hardest to reach populations.
Plan has been working in South Sudan, including before its independence, since 2006 - helping poor children to access their rights to education, health, protection and economic security.
The Role
As the Psychosocial Support Specialist you will be responsible for managing the related components assigned to Plan, providing technical support to project staff, working with partners, and liaising with government authorities. In order to accomplish these tasks, the individual must be capable of quality program analysis, building capacity of field staff, producing and disseminating technical guidance, and advocating for the psychosocial wellbeing of children and youth. The individual must be able to provide advice in technical areas including: psychosocial support and education in emergencies.
Do you have what it takes?
In order to succeed in this role you will require knowledge of key developments in psychosocial support within the education sector and the ability to demonstrate knowledge of management of distress or trauma arising from situations such as war and/or natural hazards.
Experience of facilitating training and/or developing training manuals, especially with specific experience in psychosocial support.
In-depth knowledge regarding disaster risk reduction and school safety, especially in a South Sudan context. Knowledge about management of distress or trauma arising from situations such as war and/or natural hazards is also advantageous.
Previous experience of working on USAID-funded programs is preferred.
As a child rights organisation, demonstrable understanding of the child-rights framework and standards for child protection is preferred but not essential.
Excellent English skills both verbal and written.
This role involves frequent interaction with children
Type of Role: 1 year fixed term contract with a possibility of extension
Location:Juba with extensive travels across program areas
Salary:Circa $45,000 USD + benefits
Reports to: Head of Programmes
