Project Officer on Chemicals

BEUC, The European Consumer Organisation is looking to recruit a Project Officer on Chemicals and International Trade Agreements (70% post for 12 months).

Reporting to the Head of Sustainability and Safety, the position will involve:

  • Coordinating and implementing a project which is linked to the impact of the ongoing international trade negotiations between the United States and the EU for a Trade- and Investment Partnership (TTIP) on EU’s chemicals legislation;
  • Influencing the EU’s agenda on regulating hormone disrupting chemicals;
  • Preparing position papers as well as technical briefings on these issues;
  • Undertaking advocacy and outreach activities;
  • Representing BEUC in relevant committees, working groups and public events.

The main qualifications we are looking for are:

  • A master’s degree relevant to chemicals or environmental issues;
  • Sound understanding of the EU’s chemicals legislation REACH, nanomaterials and hormone disrupting chemicals;
  • At least 3 years relevant work experience;
  • First class writing skills and experience in developing position papers;
  • Good understanding of consumer and trade issues and a commitment to advancing the interests of consumers in the area of chemicals regulation;
  • Ability to write and communicate well in English;
  • Team player – Ability to perform under pressure – Well organised.
