Principal Communications Specialist (Publishing) at Asian Development Bank

Job Purpose
ADB is a leading publisher of economic and development-related publications in Asia and the Pacific. The leader of ADB’s publishing team brings strategic vision to the task of blending the institution’s 50-year legacy as a traditional print publisher with its future as a key player in digital publishing in Asia. In a complex, international workplace, the team leader oversees the work of the Publishing Team in the Department of External Relations (DER) as it coordinates with internal and external clients to produce high quality academic and research publications, as well as institutional and corporate materials, including ADB’s Annual Report and corporate branding initiatives. This includes supervising editorial and design services provided to internal client departments and field offices to ensure consistency with ADB’s corporate branding and intellectual property guidelines. The leader of ADB’s publishing team will bring quality, rigorous standards and digital innovation to an institution that is rapidly expanding its operations and its commitment to knowledge sharing and dissemination. Work within a framework of broad policies, principles and goals, applying a high degree of autonomy in selection of work methods.

  • Supervisor: Director
  • The following staff positions may be supervised by the incumbent:
    • National Staff
    • Administrative Staff
Education Requirements
Master's Degree, or equivalent, in Publishing, Communications, Marketing, Brand Management or related fields. University degree in Publishing, Communications, Marketing, Brand Management or related fields combined with specialized experience in similar organization/s, may be considered in lieu of a Master’s degree
Relevant Experience and Other Requirements
Work experience
  • At least 12 years' relevant experience within the field in a professional capacity.
  • Work experience with an academic/research/scientific publisher and working in publishing for an international organization would be preferred.
Technical knowledge
  • Ability to apply advanced technical knowledge and skills
  • Proven application of expertise within a specific area, or breadth across multiple areas with in-depth knowledge within one area
  • Able to utilize and share relevant knowledge to benefit the broader ADB community.
People and leadership skills
  • Act as a mentor to team members, providing guidance on the delivery of services
  • Act as a coach to develop capabilities/potential of more junior colleagues
  • Multi-tasker with strong organizational skills
