Our Partner Organization

The Caucasus Network (CENN) is the umbrella organization of 35 environmental organizations in Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia, CENN sensitized society, mining/industrial and environmental for modern and sustainable development. CENN strengthens civil society, good governance and transparency. It does this by environmental research, promoting environmental protection and in resource management, compliance management and public relations. 

Caucasian and national laws for the protection of the environment, natural resources and do not exist at this point. The mining industry is devastating the environment and the country which is reducing the living conditions of people as a result. Mainly, raw materials are exported before manufacturing. The methods and technologies used for the extraction of raw materials contaminate the area, especially the South Caucasus region.

For 10 years, CENN has been operating as an NGO in the region. It has 30 employees and 5 offices in the South Caucasus. On professional level, CENN commits itself for resource protection, good governance and improvement of living conditions.

The Tasks of The Professional

In view of the discussed EU entry of Georgia, the political situation for lobbying and advocacy for sustainable mining is promising. The expert support CENN by going to work for sustainable mining, for the rights of nature and environment, the population and in this case, to establish social policies and rights. In detail the expert is responsible for:
  • Providing convincing information material, aiming at raising awareness to the public and diverse sectors;
  • Plan, conceptualize and carry out training modules for different sectors;
  • Developing in accordance with EU directives national policy recommendations and to evaluate case studies;
  • Establishing a support network with potential partners;
  • Planning, organizing and conducting lobbying and advocacy events to obtain partners.

The Suitable Candidate

  • Degree of a relevant study program, for example, legal, political, geo or chemistry science, resources and energy, with focus on ecology/sustainability;
  • At least four years of professional experience in public relations, lobby and advocacy on human rights specializing in mining/raw materials; Also preferable is work experience in the environmental department on the industry side;
  • Theoretical and practical knowledge of the relevant EU legislation for raw materials, mining and environmental technology are assumed;
  • Safe application knowledge of project management;
  • Flexibility, sovereignty and ability to convince for participating and winning managers for new ideas;
  • A high level of commitment and large frustration tolerance;
  • Initiative and enthusiasm to quickly build up the necessary network;
  • Fluent in English;
  • An advantage are language skills in Georgian or Russian, or the motivation to learn Georgian;
  • A first working or living experience in the Caucasus/in Russian-speaking countries rounds up the profile.
