1. Project Context
The UNHCR web portals provide a unified platform for emergency information coordination and dissemination. The portals feature real-time display of emergency data, maps, population statistics, demographic graphs, UNHCR and partner reports and factsheets, operational highlights and situation reports, in addition to quick links to a variety of partner web sites. It centralizes all operational data and information products related to a refugee emergency for broad dissemination to partners, donors and governments, which comprise its intended audience. The current web portals development phase involves the complete rebuild of the application on top of a Symfony framework in order to alleviate the overhead associated with common activities performed in web development. The main objectives of the Project include greater security, faster time to deliver features and subsequent cost savings.
2. Services to be provided
2.1 PHP / Symfony2 Development
  • Develop the dynamic front-end pages necessary for the OWP application according to the application specifications
  • Test the application
  • Document each development
  • Report on a regular basis on the software application progress
  • Liaise with end-users, back-end developers, graphics designer and manage project interdependencies

3. Profile
  • Strong knowledge of HTML, PHP5, CSS3, JavaScript, JQuery, AJAX, d3.js, Linux shell, and SQL
  • Demonstrated experience with the Symfony2 PHP framework and TWIG design
  • Strong UX Design experience
  • Extensive experience with LAMP stack and open source software in general
  • Experience with MySQL, Oracle and NOSQL technologies
  • Experience in an Agile development environment, particularly SCRUM
  • Demonstrated ability with working in a geographically distributed development team environment
  • Must have excellent problem solving skills and love technical challenges
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Must be self-motivated, and able to multi-task
  • Must be able to take initiative to be productive and efficient
  • Fluent in English
  • BS degree in computer science or equivalent experience
  • Technical writing skills
  • Prior UNHCR experience and knowledge of the humanitarian system are desirable
4. Duration
The assignment will be for an initial duration of 3 months, with the possibility of extension.

Remote.
