Education Adviser – Emergency Response Personnel

As our level-headed, diplomatic and influential Emergency Response Personnel (ERP) Education Adviseryou'll be deployed to the field as the lead technical adviser in a small or medium-sized emergency, or in the second phase of a large emergency, helping country teams to provide quality education for children in challenging situations.

Our UK and Global Programmes department delivers humanitarian and development programmes, builds partnerships with institutional donors – including governments, multi-laterals and trusts – and drives lasting change. Assuming an impactful role in the ERP team, as Education Adviser you will advise on the direct implementation of our education in emergencies programmes, leading on technical assessments, programme design and master budgeting, supporting fundraising, recruitment of staff and procurement of supplies, and liaising and linking with other sectors as appropriate. You will also:
· Mentor and capacity-build existing country programme staff.
· Implement projects as a programme manager, co-ordinating programmes and the impact of partner organisations and providing feedback on experiences and lessons learned.
· Ensure the prompt delivery of programme activities and the timely preparation of programme and donor reports.
· Help put in place a monitoring and evaluation plan, along with accountability activities.
· Make sure that the minimum standards of humanitarian relief are maintained.
The ideal candidate will have an open, approachable manner, a proactive attitude and exceptional interpersonal skills. You'll be sent to some of the world's most difficult contexts, often at short notice so will need to be highly flexible, while knowledge of French would be an advantage. A well-educated self-starter known for your sound judgement, decisiveness and understanding of education programming in emergency contexts, you will additionally have:
· Significant experience of working internationally in humanitarian programmes.
· A background in first-phase emergency response.
· Experience of managing a team, of project management, of designing, monitoring and evaluating programmes, and of both advising on and implementing change.
· Strong people skills, including the ability to supervise, train and coach staff.
· Experience of representation, including cluster co-ordination, and of preparing successful funding proposals.
