Veterinarian

Reports to: Country Director & Food Security and Livelihood Specialist
Purpose of the job
Key performance Indicators
· Must be of Large Animal/Livestock veterinarian abilities/background (Bovine, goat/sheep, poultry, etc. incl. dogs and donkeys)
· Have sound disease diagnosis and treatment approaches
· Tropical disease control and prevention standards experience
· Can keep good records of field activities and services
· Have the ability to Train Community Based Animal Health Workers to provide animal health service delivery at community level - Extension skills a benefit.
· Be able to teach basic veterinary clinical skills and business management
· Have an understanding of concepts related to disease reporting, vaccination protocols and surgical procedures.
· Animal/Livestock Production and Handling experience beneficial
· Pastoralism - Have an understanding/experience dealing with these communities and their livelihoods
· Liaison and Representative abilities useful

Core competencies and Requirements:
· BVSc. and/or BVMS. (N.B. Some may have just the VetMB. which is a Veterinary Medicines Directorate - VMD, which basically means they can inspect meat and so forth for the Government and DEFRA, USDA, DAFF, SANP etc.) On the other hand, no real need for a Veterinary Physician (DVM), but some could be. However, the lower part of the scale for qualifications could be a Veterinary Technician (RVT) - But all MUST be registered according to FAO regulations.
