Scholarships Available for 2015/16 at The University of Manchester

Social Statistics and the Cathie Marsh Institute for social research
MSc in Social Research Methods and Statistics
Social Statistics (www.socialsciences.manchester.ac.uk/subjects/social-statistics) and the Cathie Marsh Institute for Social Research (CMIST) (www.cmist.manchester.ac.uk) at the University of Manchester offer an MSc programme in Social Research Methods and Statistics (SRMS). A small number of SRMS MSc Scholarships of £6,000 are available for 2015/16. Click here
The MSc programme provides a firm grounding in advanced quantitative methods, taught within an applied framework. The programme is designed to be accessible to non-statisticians. The MSc includes training in: how to conduct a survey, how to analyse data and how to use statistical analysis software such as R, SPSS, Stata and MLwiN. The MSc modules are taught with an emphasis on hands-on training in the application of methods and software. Modules include: Statistical Foundations, Introduction to Statistical Modelling, Survey Research, Demographic Analysis, Social Network Analysis and Longitudinal Data Analysis. The MSc includes some pre-sessional training courses which you can take free of charge before the MSc starts. The MSc is available full-time over one year or part-time over two years.
The MSc course offers relevant and marketable skills for a career in research and is recognised for PhD training by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC). Advanced skills in data analysis and research are at the heart of social research, policy making across government and consultancy. Graduates of the MSc are in a good position to obtain jobs in government, the academic sector, local government and within the commercial research sector.
Our research, along with colleagues in Sociology, was rated second in the last Research Assessment Exercise, confirming Manchester's position as one of the UK’s top Sociology research centres.
The scholarships will be awarded on the basis of academic excellence and potential, which will be judged on academic qualifications and performance and prior experience in social research methods and/or statistics.
