Job Description

The European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) is one of the highest ranked scientific research organisations in the world. The Headquarters Laboratory is located in Heidelberg (Germany), with additional sites in Grenoble (France), Hamburg (Germany), Hinxton (UK) and Monterotondo (Italy).

Within the Administration the Purchasing Department deals with all purchase related issues and tasks according to the best value for money criteria in an international environment with potential suppliers worldwide. We are seeking a highly motivated assistant buyer.

Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Solicitation and evaluation of quotes;
  • Processing of purchase orders;
  • Checking order acknowledgments and following-up on deliveries;
  • Filing ordering documentation;
  • Contacting distributors and producers;
  • Helping scientists solving related purchasing issues;
  • Assisting the purchase officers in their daily tasks;
  • Maintaining SAP-MM master data.

Qualifications and Experience

The ideal applicant should have experience as an industrial business management assistant and/or some years of professional experience as a buyer.

The post requires:

  • Knowledge and experience in procurement of supplies and services;
  • Commercial understanding;
  • Good communication skills both in German and English;
  • Knowledge and hands-on experience of MS Office applications and the Materials Management module of an ERP system, ideally SAP;
  • Flexibility and ability to work in a team;
  • Efficiency and flexibility in executing tasks;
  • High motivation and service-oriented personality.
