This is a Technical Cooperation position Under article 4.2, paragraph (e) of the Staff Regulations, the filling of vacancies in technical cooperation projects does not fall under Annex I of the Staff Regulations and is made by direct selection by the Director-General.

Technical cooperation appointments are not expected to lead to a career in the ILO and they do not carry any expectation of renewal or conversion to any other type of appointment in the Organization.

A six-month short-term contract at the P1 grade will be given. Extensions of technical cooperation contracts are subject to various elements including the following: availability of funds, continuing need of the functions and satisfactory conduct and performance.

Conditions of employment: The salary range of this grade is the following:
- minimum step: USD 3,137.42 per month plus, subject to conditions of appointment, post adjustment (USD 2,936.23 per month, May 2015 rate) or daily subsistence allowance (CHF 390 per day during the first 60 days, and CHF 293 as of the 61st day, May 2015 rates)
- maximum step: USD 4,201.92 month plus, subject to conditions of appointment, post adjustment (USD 3,933.07 per month, May 2015 rate) or daily subsistence allowance (CHF 390 per day during the first 60 days, and CHF 295 as of the 61st day, May 2015 rates)

In conformity with existing ILO practice, the appointment of an external candidate will normally be made at the first step of this grade.


INTRODUCTION

The International Labour Organization (ILO) is a specialized agency of the United Nations mandated to establish international labour standards that safeguard equal opportunities for men and women to obtain decent productive work in conditions of freedom, equity, security and human dignity. The ILO has been a cosponsor of the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) since 2001.

The HIV and AIDS and the World of Work Branch of ILO (ILOAIDS) aims to protect human rights at work and help achieve universal access to prevention, treatment, care and support working in and through the world of work. ILOAIDS follows a rights-based and gender-responsive approach, within the framework of the ILO Code of Practice on HIV/AIDS and the world of work and the ILO Recommendation on HIV and AIDS and the world of work (No. 200). The ILO as co-sponsor of the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV and AIDS (UNAIDS) has the lead role in the world of work and in private sector mobilization. ILOAIDS intends to hire a Junior Communication Officer to work in the Communication unit to assist in the development of communication materials, undertake work related to communication campaigns and initiatives (such as the current Getting to Zero at Work campaign and the VCT@WORK initiative) and organization of events/AIDS conferences. 
Description of Duties

The position will work in close collaboration and under the direct supervision of the Senior Technical Specialist/head of Communications, Training and Partnerships and the overall guidance of the Chief of ILOAIDS.

1. Provide communication support such as editing, revising contributions, formatting for the implementation of the "Getting to Zero@Work campaign and the VCT@Work initiative, including the social media component of the campaign/initiative.

2. Provide support (drafting, editing, managing inputs, finalizing) to the Communication unit in the development of communication materials, both print and audio-visuals, in collaboration with D/COM and UNAIDS, wherever necessary.

3. Assist with the organization of advocacy events, World AIDS day event at ILO Geneva as well as in the field, i.e. research, create, edit and publish content using relevant communications tools including social media.

4. Assist with the work related to the participation of the ILO in global and regional AIDS conferences.

5. Provide communication support with regards to the launch and promotion of publications, including the use of social media tools to promote such publications

6. Assist with the work related to the ILOAIDS website including its promotion and restructuring to enhance visibility and generate more traffic..

7. Write press releases and feature stories for the ILO website/media.

8. Undertake any other task assigned by the supervisor/Chief of ILOAIDS. 
Required Qualifications
Education

First level university degree in communication/social sciences/international relations or its equivalent.
Experience

Minimum of one year of national or international development communication experience.
Languages

Excellent command of one working language and a good working knowledge of another.
Competencies 

Strong social media and research skills. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing. Knowledge of the ILO's mandate, structure and program of activities. Good interpersonal skills and ability to work well as member of a team. Good knowledge of computer applications for information collection, management and dissemination.
