ICARDA - Director General

The International Center for Agricultural Research in the Dry Areas(ICARDA, www.icarda.org) is a non-profit, non-political organization that promotes sustainable agricultural development and poverty reduction in the dry areas of the developing world. We are one of the 15 international agricultural research centers that are members of the CGIAR Consortium.
The organization’s current Director General is retiring after a long and outstanding career, and we seek a successor. The position calls for an inspirational and visionary leader with the management competencies required to direct a scientific organization and build collaborative and highly effective and efficient research and development teams in developing country environments. Responsibilities include providing strategic leadership to ICARDA, addressing agricultural research and capacity development, policy setting, fundraising, budget development and allocation, as well as responsibility for global political and public relations both within and outside the CGIAR.
The ideal candidate has an international reputation in a relevant branch of the agricultural sciences and at least 15 years of experience in a senior leadership position of agricultural and/or development institutions. She/he can demonstrate the ability to build collaborative and highly effective and efficient research and development teams in developing country environments, and a Ph.D. in agricultural or social sciences from a reputable university.
