Head of ICT - University of Oxford

This post is full time, fixed term for 3 years in the first instance
Are you a talented IT professional with a passion for making technology work well, and able to bring the wider benefits to people?
Do you have a knack for translating complex business requirements into achievable and cost-effective technological specifications?
Are you excited by the idea of working in an innovative, fast-changing environment among a diverse group of individuals, all of whom are committed to the idea of making a world better led, better served and better governed?
If your answers are yes, then the Blavatnik School of Government at the University of Oxford has a new role that could be the perfect career move for you.
We are now seeking to appoint a Head of ICT to provide leadership and management for the School’s wide range of high tech facilities and future ambitions. As Head of ICT you will oversee the company’s overall IT strategy and infrastructure across all its activities, including day-to-day management of the help desk to support students and staff.
You will have proven experience of managing a mid-size IT department and have an excellent track record of delivering complex projects on time and on budget.
Your organisation and delegation skills will be highly honed, and you will have the ability to communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical staff, and to gather and translate business requirements into achievable, cost-effective specifications.
You will have experience working with external suppliers as well as in house technical specialists and will have a solid understanding of:
  • Apple OSX based devices and software
  • Microsoft Office Suite
  • TCIP networking, including wireless networking
  • VMware virtualisation technologies
This is an excellent opportunity to start an IT department in a new operating environment, equipped with the latest Mac, PC and AV technologies for teaching and conferencing.
The Blavatnik School of Government (BSG) at the University of Oxford aims to inspire and support better public policy and government around the world. The global, practice-focused, multi-disciplinary school was established in 2010 thanks to a visionary gift of £75 million by Leonard Blavatnik and will shortly be moving to a state of the art building in the centre of Oxford.
