Testimony from your potential team mates:
Beni is a small town in the Northern part of the North Kivu province in the East of the Democratic Republic of Congo. The town is two hours West of the Ugandan border (Kasese) providing easy access to the international air-port in Entebbe; and two hours North of Butembo, a large commercial town, ensuring ready access to goods in Beni.
Despite being in what is known as a ‘red zone’, life in Beni is safe and welcoming to the few foreigners who live there, be it humanitarian aid workers, workers in the private sector (coffee, timber, papaine, brewery), or professors at the English/French bilingual university (UCBC). Good quality housing is available, and the town boasts a gym, 2 swim-ming pools, a tennis court, a couple of night clubs, several bars and restaurants.
