ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION:

ABOUT THE JOB: 
FINCA International is seeking a Director of Development. S/he will be responsible for cultivating relationships beneficial to organization's UK branch, soliciting gifts, and stewarding existing donor relationships to ensure growth in donations and high donor satisfaction and retention rates. S/he will lead prospecting for all donor acquisition in the UK and Europe, cultivate potential donors, make the 'ask' and close agreements. S/he will be responsible for finding donor leads, following up on them and developing donor referral networks.
Tasks and Responsibilities:
  • Fundraising:
    • Meet fundraising targets, (cash and pro-bono/in-kind and restricted/unrestricted) for organization's UK branch;
    • Personally solicit and close gifts from vetted and qualified constituents/prospects;
    • Prepare the VP of new business development, DoD/FI, or others as appropriate, to solicit gifts as necessary.
  • Research and prospecting:
    • Proposal development:
      • Work in concert with research team and DOD/FI, align organizational strategy with donor opportunity;
      • Ensure that proposals being developed adhere to the donor’s interests and understanding and are aligned with organization’s interests;
      • Work in close coordination with key stakeholders (HQ and subs) to develop, write, and submit funding proposals and grant reports.
    • Contract negotiation:
      • Lead the grant/contract agreements through review process, ensure all pertinent stakeholders have cleared agreement/contract;
      • Negotiate with donor counterpart through contract signing as needed.
    • Reporting:
      • Ensure all grant deliverables and timelines are met;
      • Responsible for timely submission of all grant reporting of organization's UK branch;
      • Proactively communicate with donor if challenges are encountered or changes to milestones and timelines need to be made.
  • Cultivation and stewardship:
    • Cultivate relationships with prospective and current donors through regular, proactive communications preferable in person or through the phone;
    • Provide timely and personalized acknowledgements of donor contributions.
  • Strategic and operational planning:
    • Develop the strategic plan for assigned donor portfolio and revise as needed;
    • Develop the annual plan that describes the operating objectives, structure and budget (income and expense) for assigned donor portfolio;
    • Report to VP of NBD and DoD/FI on performance against plan per reporting criteria;
  • Institution building:
    • Work closely with VP for NBD manage organization's UK board administration and relationships efficiently and effectively, ensuring members are engaged, understand their responsibilities, and are committed to the organization's mission;
    • Ensure timely regulatory compliance with the charity commission and companies house;
    • Work closely with organization's NBD and finance staff to ensure organization's UK branch interactions with yearly audit review team are in line with current policies and procedures, and that audit is completed on time for regulatory compliance.
  • Program administration:
    • Supervise other organization's UK organization's fundraising staff;
    • Manage, record, and upkeep all organization's UK branch fundraising activities in Raiser’s Edge software in accordance with reporting and performance measurement policy;
    • Establish and adhere to process, systems, and policies for cultivating and stewarding assigned constituents.
  • Public outreach:
    • Develop and implement strategy to raise awareness, generate goodwill, and support for organization's UK branch as a member of the FI network, a leading organization in financial inclusion and social enterprise development;
    • Position organization's UK branch as a responsible and effective charity, ensuring that organization is known to, and well regarded by, a range of key opinion leaders in the philanthropic, business, political, and media arenas;
  • Mobilization of social investment funds:
    • Support the efforts of FI’s capital markets group as it relates to developing unsecured loan notes for high net worth individuals, as allowed by UK charities regulations;
    • Other support duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree or equivalent work experience in fundraising, sales, public policy, international development or related field;
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in the sector;
  • Experience managing diverse donor portfolio from 1-1 pitch to complex proposal development;
  • Outstanding interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills with proven ability to absorb and synthesize very complex substantive information to effectively engage with donors during extensive face-to-face solicitation and stewardship meetings;
  • Ability to effectively write proposals, reports, and correspondence;
  • Clear and concise communicator. Ability to deliver impactful messages verbally and in writing;
  • High proficiency with Microsoft Office and accounting software is requisite;
  • Proficiency with Raiser’s Edge;
  • Working proficiency in social media preferred;
  • Fluency in English required. Spanish, French, and/or Russian fluency preferred.
