Director, Education, Youth and Learning (EYL)

Director, Education, Youth and Learning (EYL)
The Ford Foundation seeks a Director, Education, Youth and Learning (EYL) to join its programmatic leadership team.  The position will be located at the Ford Foundation headquarters in New York, NY.
Established in 1936, the Ford Foundation is a private foundation committed to social justice and supporting institutions, individuals and ideas working to end inequality.  The person who is selected as the Director will have the opportunity to help drive and shape the foundation’s efforts to promote effective learning and development for the world’s young people.  The new Director will join the Foundation at a pivotal moment of transition in its own leadership and strategy with a new Foundation President and newly appointed Vice Presidents who will focus its strategy on impacting inequality through interdisciplinary approaches.  The primary goal of the EYL area is to significantly improve life chances of poor and marginalized young people through improving learning outcomes in secondary education and promoting public engagement of universities.
Reporting to the Vice President, Education, Creativity and Free Expression, the EYL Director will play a key role in defining and shaping the global EYL thematic area and strategy across 11 offices with responsibility for implementing the Foundation’s strategic plan for philanthropic investment within the field.  This individual will lead and manage a global, collaborative team of program officers to execute against the strategy and will pursue new, high-leverage philanthropic opportunities to positively advance education for inclusive development globally.
The successful candidate should be a senior-level leader with core competencies in team leadership and collaboration and influence and have proven success in strategy development, strategic partnerships and relationship building.  This individual must have a genuine passion and enthusiasm for addressing and ultimately reversing inequality.  Experience working in the Global South as well as the U.S. and an advanced degree in a relevant field are preferred.  For more information, please see the Ford Foundation website at www.fordfoundation.org.
Initial screening of applicants will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled.  The Ford Foundation will be assisted by Ellen Brown Landers, Joe Haberman and Tracie Smith of Heidrick & Struggles, Inc.  Applications and inquiries should be directed to:
