Call for Attorney Consultant

FSC International is looking for an Attorney Consultant (male / female) to support its Legal Department in the Transparent Forests Project which uses GIS data to observe changes in forest landscapes over time. Please see more here: https://ic.fsc.org/transparentforests.552.htm.

operational headquarters in Bonn, Germany. FSC has 5 Regional
Offices and is represented through National Offices or Network
Partners in more than 40 countries across the world.

Mission Statement / Objectives of the Function:

The Attorney Consultant will support the project team in the
creative development, drafting, negotiating, and finalizing of legal
agreements for an international online platform for multiple user
groups.

Main Roles and Responsibilities:

• To draft terms and conditions for the use of the online platform.
• To coordinate, draft and support the negotiation of third party license agreements with large digital map providers.
• To draft data processing and service level agreements with project partners.
• To support the project team with legal counsel and legal services where needed.
• To communicate with attorneys abroad to collect information needed for the drafting of contracts.
• Additional Tasks as agreed with the Transparent Forests Project Lead.

Functional Attribution to Organizational Unit:The Attorney Consultant reports to the Transparent Forests Project Lead.

Cooperation with other Operational Units:Policy and Standards Unit.

Qualification, Experience and Skills:

The successful candidate demonstrates the following key
competencies and qualities:

• Education and Training:

o Admitted attorney-at-law in Germany (Volljurist).
o Admitted to the bar for at least five years.

• Working Experience, Style and Skills:

o At least two years of relevant professional work experience in the field of German data protection law.
o At least two years of relevant professional work experience in software licensing with e.g. online mapping companies.
o Experience in defining and drafting Service Level Agreements and Terms and Conditions for IT Applications.
o Experience in working in an international team in English.
o Working knowledge of GIS data systems, GPS, tracking devices in smartphone applications and related data protection laws is an asset.
o Proven ability to manage projects independently and to meet deadlines.
o Ability to communicate and lead negotiations according to
professional business standard.
o Experience in Trademark and Copyright laws is a plus.

• Languages:
o Business level proficiency in English and ability to draft contracts in English.
• Computer Skills – good skills in the use of/experience with:
o Standard software packages (MS Office).

Terms and Conditions:'
• Location: Remote and Bonn, Germany.
• Working Hours: 40-60 hours per month.
• Duration of Employment: Consultancy contract – 6 months
(extension possible).
• Starting Date: 01 July 2015.
