Project Coordinator

WorldFisha member of the CGIAR Consortium, is an international, nonprofit research organization. CGIAR is a global partnership that unites organizations engaged in research for a food secure future. CGIAR research is dedicated to reducing rural poverty, increasing food security, improving human health and nutrition, and ensuring more sustainable management of natural resources. It is carried out by the 15 centers who are members of the CGIAR Consortium in close collaboration with hundreds of partner organizations, including national and regional research institutes, civil society organizations, academia, and the private sector.

Project Coordinator

Overview
Under the overall guidance of the Project Manager, the Project Coordinator will provide support to the in-country coordination, technical and administration for the development and implementation of WorldFish projects in Sierra Leone and contribute to the establishment of WorldFish representation in Sierra Leone. S/he will be responsible for the day-to-day operation of the project office; serve as focal contact for internal and external communications about WorldFish’s work in Sierra Leone; and support the design, contracting and supervision of research and development project activities that are undertaken by national partners in Sierra Leone.

Key responsibilities

  • Develop activity-level work plans and budgets, monitor progress against project objectives and milestones, draft project reports, provide regular updates, and identify and alert potential risk factors to Project Leaders and other relevant parties.
  • Ensure effective and efficient day-to-day operations of the project, including exceptional financial tracking and reporting with the highest integrity, alignment and accountability for quality in WorldFish systems and procedures.
  • Provide general procedural guidance to government and other national partners in Sierra Leone in designing and implementing specific research and development projects and provide technical inputs where appropriate.
  • Develop and oversee the monitoring and evaluation (M&E) system for the bilateral grant projects in Sierra Leone and ensure appropriate links to the research program outputs.
  • Represent WorldFish at external meetings and consultations as directed by project leaders and ensure that the project’s objectives and outputs are communicated appropriately.
  • Provide support and capacity building to national staff and partners in setting up and implementing effective systems for project administration, documentation, storage and analysis of data collected by projects and in preparing written materials in English with high accuracy. 
  • Nurture the development of partnership with organizations and associations engaged in the fishery and supporting sectors and in particular with non-governmental organizations, private sector, government departments and community-based organizations (CBOs).

Skills and abilities

  • Demonstrated experience in grants and project management and administration, including budget planning and financial reporting.
  • Ability to work with a diverse range of partners in civil society, government and community.
  • Knowledge of Participatory development and livelihoods approaches in support ofaquaculture, natural resources management or community development projects.
  • Excellent communication skills required with strong command of writing in English.
  • Demonstrated ability to be a self-starter and able to deal with ambiguity while maintaining a strong commitment to delivering results.
 

Qualifications and experience

  • A Bachelor’s degree in rural development or a related field.
  • Successful grants management, donor relationships and project management experience
  • Effective collaborator in Africa region, and within a global organization, and experience coordinating multiple relationships to deliver on-time
  • Field  experience  working  with  NGO  or  donor-funded  projects  on  aquaculture, agriculture, natural  resources management, rural development, nutrition or environmental conservation, with at least 3 years work experience in Sierra Leone. 
     


This position will be based at a project office within a partner agency in Sierra Leone, withsignificant travel to various districts in the country. Interviews are expected to be held in either Africa or Malaysia between 14th – 17th June 2015, and short-listed candidates should be available to attend.
