The Bank for International Settlements (BIS) is an international organisation promoting global monetary and financial stability and is a bank for central banks. The BIS's head office is located in Basel, Switzerland, with representative offices in Hong Kong SAR and Mexico City. We are currently recruiting for an Operations Officer, responsible for validating and confirming the Bank's trades. Addtionally, he/she participates in IT projects, system testing and audits, and ensures conformity with rules set by Compliance and Internal Audit. He/she is a strong team-player, with a natural interest in developments in financial standards and settlements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Validating and confirming all of the Bank's trades;
  • Resolving exceptions in the straight through processing for all non-standard and complex operations for bonds and money market, FX and derivative instruments;
  • Investigating and resolving confirmation mismatches and settlement failures together with the front office, custodians and customers;
  • Ensuring accuracy and timeliness of confirmations, settlements and payments;
  • Updating deal and settlement instructions;
  • Creating/checking/updating bond definitions in the trading system.

Qualifications, skills and experience:

  • Banking diploma or equivalent;
  • Good knowledge of Banking instruments, market practice and new initiatives in the banking industry;
  • Flexibility to cope with a variety of tasks; cooperative; good team player;
  • Good organisational skills;
  • Customer-focused;
  • Ability to cope with pressure and tight deadlines;
  • Familiarity with SWIFT messaging formats;
  • Knowledge of Bloomberg information systems;
  • Good communication skills;
  • Fluency in English required. Knowledge of German, Italian or French desirable;
  • Minimum of two year's work experience, preferably in banking operations.
