ODI is seeking a Head of Public Affairs who will play an influential role for the Institute. You will be responsible for defining ODI’s approach to policy-influencing as well as leading a team responsible for delivering media and public events. You will provide policy intelligence to ODI’s research teams to help them disseminate their research findings to key audiences. You will be able to build on ODI’s excellent reputation and networks - within the UK, internationally and ideally in key Southern capitals – to bring our work to the attention of senior policy-makers.
You will have:
  • degree level education
  • Substantial track record of successful policy change strategies in international development – or related field – such as international relations, humanitarian, human rights, global health or education policy.
  • Significant experience of working within – or closely with - government or international institutions at a senior level
  • Excellent knowledge of international affairs, and major global trends and processes affecting this role and our field of work.
  • Experience of setting up and developing new processes and implementing new ways of working
  • Demonstrable experience of building an organisation’s external profile and influence.
  • Excellent contact and networking ability
  • Self-starter, able to devise projects and plan and implement them, with minimal guidance
  • Strong management skills, setting achievable but ambitious goals, fostering a high-performing culture
  • Experience of working in the South (desirable)
  • Fluent in one other language apart from English (desirable)
