For a variety of assignments Rotary International seeks a versatile, talented and experienced Freelance Writer.

Potential assignments include but are not limited to press releases, news and feature articles, speeches, blog posts, op-eds, announcements and letters in national and international media. Topics and issues will vary from assignment to assignment. Some assignments may require quick turn-around on tight deadlines.

Requirements and experience:

  • Fluency/mother tongue level in English, German and another major European language, preferably French;
  • University degree ideally with focus on journalism;
  • A minimum of five years as a professional writer/editor with experience across a range of print and online media, such as major-market newspapers, national and international magazines, major trade and specialty publications and frequently-visited websites;
  • The ability to produce professional, high quality copy for a range of external audiences, adapting writing style, tone and voice to fit each assignment and its target audience;
  • Capability to work independently and with high volumes of work and tight deadlines without compromising speed, accuracy and quality;
  • Working knowledge of AP style and proficient editing skills;
  • A sense of creativity and the capacity to approach each assignment with passion and enthusiasm;
  • Strong research skills and the ability get quickly up to speed on unfamiliar topics and issues;
  • Affinity and knowledge in global public health issues/government relations/advocacy efforts/EU affairs/volunteer organization;
  • Strong knowledge of the European media market.
