Volunteer & Campaigns Coordinator

Organization: Animal Place is a nonprofit sanctuary for farmed animals and an education/advocacy organization. It operates three shelters in northern California. Its headquarters is located on 600-acres in Grass Valley, (60 miles north of Sacramento). This position will be working out of the Grass Valley site alongside a staff of twelve.
Position Objectives: To expand and maintain a thriving volunteer program, manage and facilitate all campaign programs, and provide administrative assistance to the Education Director
Responsibilities and Duties
Volunteer management
- Process and retain forms and records to document the volunteer activities
- Create the volunteer position descriptions in consultation with staff
- Develop and implement effective strategies to recruit volunteers
- Implement interview and screening protocol for volunteers
- Orient and facilitate training of volunteers to increase their understanding of Animal Place, its mission and the role and responsibilities of interns and volunteers
- Ensure volunteer check-in protocols are followed, and records maintained
- Ensure that volunteers receive the appropriate level of supervision
- Assist with conflict resolution among staff, and volunteers
- Plan and implement volunteer recognition activities
- Conduct ongoing evaluation of the volunteer program and implement improvements as necessary
- Administer and review policies and procedures that guide the volunteer programs and services
Campaigns
- Oversee the Food for Thought program and supervise current contract employee coordinating the program
- Oversee and implement strategic planning for Food for Thought campaign with the Food for Thought coordinator
- Plan and implement campaign activities
- Assist with event planning as needed
- Interface, network and collaborate with other local and national animal groups as needed
- Represent Animal Place at events and conferences, as needed
- Assist the Education Director with all campaigns
- Perform any other duties assigned by the Education Director
Additional Responsibilities
  • Assist the education department in administrative duties, outreach, and events
Qualifications
- Strong interest in and commitment to animal rights and veganism
- Knowledge of farmed animal issues
- Excellent oral communication skills
- Experience supervising/managing employees or volunteers
- Well organized: set priorities, develop a work schedule, monitor progress towards goals, and track details, data, information and activities
- Relationship builder: establish and maintain positive working relationships with others, both internally and externally, to achieve the goals of the organization
- Ability to professionally advocate Animal Place's positions on issues
- Solve problems: assess problem situations to identify causes, gather and process relevant information, generate possible solutions, and make recommendations and/or resolve the problem.
- Experience in navigating different social media platforms
- Self-starter: can work independently; enjoys creating and implementing new initiatives
- Previous work in animal protection strongly preferred (paid or volunteer)
- Personable and friendly
- Creativity/innovation: develop new and unique ways to improve operations of the organization and to create new opportunities.
- Strong writing skills desired
