Human Resources Assistant

DESC is the largest multi-service agency serving homeless adults in the Puget Sound region, reaching over 7,000 people annually and providing state licensed mental health and chemical dependency treatment, 279 emergency shelter beds, and nearly 800 units of permanent supportive housing. Since 2009, DESC has moved over 1,100 vulnerable adults affected by mental illness, chemical dependency, and multiple disabilities off of Seattle's streets and into housing, more than any other local homeless provider in the area.
The Human Resources Assistant is responsible for providing administrative and other support for a variety of agency wide human resources functions, including maintaining personnel files, processing change of employee information. The Human Resources Assistant will process and handle highly confidential information.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Associate Degree and 2 years of relevant Human Resources experience (including recruitment). Experience as a human resources assistant preferably in nonprofit, human service, or behavioral health setting. Or any equivalent combination of education, experience, and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Washington State Driver's License, insurable driving record, and use of a vehicle.
  • Ability to work evening hours to represent agency at job fairs throughout King and Pierce Counties.
  • Ability to handle sensitive information with a high degree of professionalism. Good verbal and written communication skills, including grammar.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Intermediate word processing and computer skills including demonstrated skills using word and Excel.
  • Demonstrated respect for diversity and commitment to developing multicultural competency sensitivity.
