AmeriCorps Middle School Coaching Fellow

Harlem RBI, an award winning sports-based youth development program, is seeking dynamic individuals to serve in a one year Coaching Fellowship in a year-round enrichment program for middle and high school youth. The Team Enrichment Coaching Fellows will work collaboratively with a team of staff and volunteers to support the positive development of youth and deliver core program components.
Like all Harlem RBI staff, the Team Enrichment Coaching Fellow should demonstrate a strong commitment to the mission and values of Harlem RBI and should have substantial expertise in all areas of responsibility. Roles and Responsibilities:
  • Support the facilitation of Study Hall and Study Skills Instruction;
  • Support the facilitation of Care and Connect;
  • Lead Assistant Coach for your team;
  • Manage special projects such as incentive trips and exhibition nights;
  • Collaborate with Program Coordinators on academic initiatives;
  • Serve as an Assistant Coach for your designated team;
  • Create spreadsheets to track specific items; take attendance and submit into database.
  • Support the facilitation of clubs.
Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 60 college credits completed (and a plan to graduate if you have not completed your degree);
  • One full-year minimum of successful experience working with urban youth;
  • Deep commitment to a year of service;
  • Experience playing organized baseball/softball on high school or college level and as a Scholar-Athlete;
  • Commitment to achieving outcomes and high student achievement;
  • Ability and desire to engage youth and families in a low-income, urban community;
  • Embody the qualities of a strong role model for the students;
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills;
  • Demonstrated leadership and motivational skills;
  • Harlem RBI Alumni are strongly preferred;
  • Interest in education, youth development or social services preferred;
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred;
  • Coaching experience preferred.
Hours:
Normal hours are 11:00am to 7:00pm Mondays-Fridays; with seasonally adjusted late evenings and weekends required.
Compensation:
As an AmeriCorps position, you will receive a living allowance over your term of service. Upon completion of 1,700 hours you will also receive an education award of $5,550 to use for past or future college expenses, including outstanding loans. In addition, medical insurance will be provided through AmeriCorps and you will receive twenty days paid vacation per year.
