Senior Public Health Specialist

Contract: 6 months maternity cover
Salary: Up to £48,000 depending on experience

Malaria Consortium have currently got an opening for a Senior Public Health Specialist to provide maternity cover for the long term post-holder for 6 months. The senior public health specialist will provide strategic and technical contributions specifically to operational research design, conduct, and interpretation, dissemination and application of findings. As a member of the global technical team, this role will require support to both the Africa and Asia regional programmes. This role requires a broad but strong technical base in malaria and other communicable disease control interventions/ approaches, including relating to prevention, treatment and diagnosis and health systems strengthening. This role will also require strategic contributions to organisational technical learning and development, and technical inputs to business development activities.
The successful candidate will have:
• A postgraduate qualification in public health
• Substantial international public health experience in different low income country settings (preferably in Africa and Asia), including significant experience in designing, supporting and evaluating malaria control interventions
• Substantial experience in operational research relating to communicable diseases, including both quantitative and qualitative methods
• Substantial experience working closely with Ministries of Health and other stakeholders in relation to policy and strategy reviews, project planning, implementation and coordination, and evaluation, and fundraising proposals
• Specialist experience in the area of EITHER (applied) health economics, specifically economic evaluation OR social science research
• Significant experience in a senior management role
• Specialist experience in the planning, application and review of health systems strengthening approaches
• Experience in managing large scale public health or communicable disease projects in low income settings
• A track record of successful proposal development with key health donors
• Experience in managing projects and staff teams, including training and mentoring
• A solid understanding of the international donor environment in relation to malaria and other communicable diseases Ability to innovate and design effective health programmes
• Strong analytical skills in monitoring and evaluation
• Solid background in quantitative and qualitative research methods
• Excellent technical writing skills, including reports and manuscripts
• Excellent problem solving, planning and organising skills
• Ideas driven and creative thinking
• Familiar knowledge in the use of data management and analysis software such as Excel, Access, EpiData, STATA
