The position will be permanently situated in St John’s, NL with an initial short term assignment (approx. 1 year) in Calgary, AB.

Exploration Statoil Canada (EXP NA CAN) is a region of EXP North America (NA) supporting the growth of Drilling and Production North America (DPNA).
EXP NA CAN is seeking a Principle Petec Geomodeler, working with the Bay du Nord Exploration Team to provide static and dynamic geomodeling expertise in the evaluation of the Bay du Nord discovery and building of reservoir models to define the discovery.
EXP NA CAN operates 73% of Statoil’s Exploration portfolio on the Grand Banks area, including 9 Statoil Operated licenses (with 4 significant discoveries) and the unit has also taken an active role in selected Partner licenses. The Statoil equity in the above prioritized exploration licenses is between 50-75%, and the risked number of Statoil exploration wells over the next 4-6 years in the area is between 3-4 per year. The total licensed and Statoil operated exploration acreage in the Flemish Pass covers 8500km2.
In addition to the above larger exploration licenses which include the Mizzen, Harpoon and Bay du Nord discoveries in Flemish Pass, Statoil has production offshore Newfoundland and Labrador at the Hibernia and Terra Nova fields and has a holding interest in 26 minor SDL’s in the area of the Hibernia, Terra Nova and Hebron fields. These producing assets and field development projects at Hibernia South, Hibernia BNA and Hebron are managed by DPNA with support from EXP NA CAN on issues related to infrastructure-near exploration.
The Bay du Nord Team works closely with the License exploration team within EXP NA CAN, which is responsible for planning the Bay du Nord appraisal wells, and for maturing and drilling prospects in licenses near to Bay du Nord.

Job description

  • Perform integrated geomodeling interpretations of all data types in the Bay du Nord discovery
  • Work in a team environment with the Bay du Nord team geologists, geophysicists and reservoir engineers to develop detailed static reservoir models of the Bay du Nord discovery, incorporating facies and fault model inputs from the team
  • Assistance with dynamic simulation of reservoir models and preliminary drainage strategies for the Bay du Nord reservoir sands based on integrated understanding of depositional models and reservoir models
  • Work closely with exploration and drilling teams in planning of future appraisal drilling locations to maximize geological understanding and data acquisition
  • Support the local office emergency response initiatives by providing emergency response coverage on an on call basis, as required

Qualifications

  • Local and expat candidates will be considered
  • M.Sc. in Geology is preferred
  • A minimum of 10-12 years of experience is required
  • Experience with offshore oil development in rift basins is required
  • Proven geomodeling and FMU knowledge and expertise is a requirement
  • Knowledge of and experience in reservoir model building and simulation is required
  • Experience and understanding of Internal decision gated process
  • APEGA member or eligibility. Eligibility for PEGNL
  • The candidate should be open to diverse business task flows and appreciative of multiple avenues to success:
