Free Press Unlimited works to ensure that objective news coverage and information are and remain available to people the world over. Particularly in countries where there is little to no press freedom.
Across the globe, journalists and media pioneers have taken it on themselves to supply their communities with objective information. Free Press Unlimited actively supports these professionals in over forty countries, by offering them, among other things, trainings and temporary financial and material aid, and by strengthening their professional capacity. So that as many people as possible gain and keep access to truly vital information.
Free Press Unlimited is currently seeking to hire (as soon as possible): A Journalism Trainer. Up to 60 journalists, from Middle-Eastern media outlets, will be trained in journalism and production skills, fundamentals and ethics of journalism including reporting on war-related stories, human rights and gender sensitive issues. The workshops will be possibly on basic journalistic skills, however the needs assessment will be the guideline to tailor made the course design. Each workshop consists of 8 days for 15 trainees. It is expected that the trainer together with a senior coach/trainer will design each course where FPU will also contribute with methodology and tools. The cooperation is aimed to keep synergy and continuity in the learning programme as well as result oriented.

Job responsibilities:
- To train a group of Journalists in the Middle East on Basic Journalism: fundamentals, ethical journalism, basic reporting skills, ethics in journalism including gender sensitive language, storytelling theory, reporting on Human Rights abuses, overview of different media (audio, video, stills and written), fact-checking and tools;
- To design layout for training;
- To contribute with theory and reference work to support the methodology of the training
- To produce/adjust if necessary learning tools
- To have good assessment tools that can be used to evaluate the training and the trainees' performances;
- To report on the results of the training and give recommendations to the trainees, the organisations where the trainees come from and to Free Press Unlimited.
We're looking for an energetic and driven individual with:
- Proven educational background and/or work experience as a trainer in a similar or the designated field;
- Experience with print and non-print journalistic writing, ethical journalism, persuasion theory, story-telling theory and fact checking and tools;
- Knowledgeable about the Middle East;
- Fluency in Arabic and English, written and spoken;
- Good research and analytic skills;
- Knowledgeable about investigative journalism and ethical issues within the field;
- Ability to monitor, evaluate, and recognise weaknesses and strengths of the trainees.
- Good communication and inter-cultural skills; able to effectively communicate with trainees, other trainers and supervisors;
- Pedagogical/teaching skills;
- Available for at least 32 full time days, in a period of one year.
