Emergency response: Education Manager

In response to the current situation in the Philippines, Save the Children is in the process of putting together a team provide emergency response support. As part of this we are looking for an Education Manager to provide expertise and support to our upscale in the area.
The Education Program Manager will be deployed to the Tacloban field base. S/he will be expected to lead on program design and implementation, budget holding, coordination, and support recruitment and procurement liaising and linking with other sectors as appropriate. S/he will be expected to mentor and/or build the capacity of the education team in Tacloban.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Essential
  • Bachelors level in Education or similar relevant social science; Master's degree in Education desirable
  • Minimum four years of working experience in the Education sector, including two years in an emergency or fragile state context
  • Previous experience of project management, including supervision of staff and budgeting
  • Experience of and commitment to working through systems of community participation and accountability
  • Knowledge of established inter-agency standards and guidelines such as the INEE Minimum Standards
  • Demonstrable skills for quality monitoring and evaluation
  • Experience in training and capacity building, particularly of national staff and volunteers
  • Experience of representation in external forums (i.e. Education Cluster)
  • Experience of preparing funding proposals for donors
  • Ability to write analytical but clear and concise assessment and project reports
  • Strong influencing skills
  • Politically and culturally sensitive with qualities of patience, tact and diplomacy
  • Fluent in written and spoken English
  • Commitment to the aims and principles of Save the Children. In particular, a good understanding of the Save the Children mandate and child focus and an ability to ensure this continues to underpin our support
Desirable
  • Experience of working in Education in the Philippines; experience working with the Department of Education and/or DSWD (Department of Social Welfare and Development)
Deployments are expected to last for six months.
