The opportunity

We are looking for a Drill and Blast Engineer to plan the daily drill and blast activities while providing pattern designs and management of consumables and thereby ensure compliance to mine development schedule.
Located 60km west of Pannawonica, Mesa A was opened in 2010 as part of the westwards progression of mining in the Robe Valley.   This open pit iron ore operation with site-based processing facilities offers a fly in fly out roster.

What the role entails
  
This position is a great opportunity for an enthusiastic individual seeking a new challenge.  Working on a family friendly 8 days on and 6 days off roster and reporting to the Senior Mining Engineer, you will be:
  • Optimising the Drill and Blast process
  • Monitoring and reporting on quality and quantity of ore and waste drilled and blasted on a daily basis
  • Conducting regular reviews of blast performance
  • Developing solid working relationships within the team and all relevant personnel
  • Fostering a culture of continuous improvement and initiatives
  • Ensuring that all activities are conducted within the Rio Tinto Iron Ore Safety Standards
What you will need for this role

To succeed in this exciting and challenging role, you will have:
  • A degree in Mining Engineering or related discipline
  • Significant open pit mining experience in a similar role
  • Significant previous experience in a leadership role
Working knowledge of Vulcan will be highly regarded. In addition, exposure to multi-pit and multi element mining operations will be desirable. Familiarity with mine planning and scheduling concepts will be an added advantage.
