Deputy Chief of Party - Nicaragua

Internews Network is seeking a Deputy Chief of Party candidate for a potential USAID-funded media support initiative with the general goal of strengthening independent media, enhancing research and policy analysis, and dissemination of independent information in Nicaragua. The DCOP will support the COP in all aspects of program management, at a strategic level and also at an operational level. The DCOP will be responsible for oversight of operations, admin and finance, HR, M&E, reporting and sub-grants. The DCOP will be required to act as COP as from time-to-time being the principal point of contact in Nicaragua for procedural and substantive matters, and will also take on delegated COP responsibilities as required. The DCOP will support the COP in liaison with USAID/ Nicaragua on technical matters and in programs management and operations in response to USAID/ Nicaragua technical direction. The DCOP will also support the COP in ensuring quality control and the overall responsiveness of technical assistance provided under the Cooperative Agreement.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
  • Support the COP in project management
  • Work with the COP to manage a Nicaraguan local staff.
  • Develop and maintain a keen understanding of challenges and issues facing effective media and communications in Nicaragua
  • Work with the COP, local partners and local staff to conceive directions for growth of current projects and devise new strategies to assist Nicaraguan media
  • Cultivate relationships with relevant local and international governments, media, partners and agencies
  • In partnership with the COP provide leadership in the development and maintenance of professional relationships relationships with donors through reporting, liaison, communications, and advocacy
  • Assist in raising funds for new projects by writing grants and budgets
  • Work with Internews home office to ensure proper administration of projects
  • Support the COP and senior admin and finance staff to ensure conformance with donor rules and regulations
  • Support the COP’s efforts in project planning, budgeting, and administrative issues.
Qualifications:
  • Five years Deputy Chief of Party (DCOP) or senior management experience or other comparable experience in the development/media sector;
  • Five - seven years’ experience managing development projects, particularly in Nicaragua and/or Latin American countries;
  • Relevant professional and/or academic background in media- or communications-related field;
  • Experience in building and effectively managing and supervising a diverse team of employees;
  • Demonstrated effective interpersonal skills, pro-activeness, creative problem-solving and ethical management;
  • Prior experience working with international donors and relevant knowledge of USAID policies and procedures;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills;
  • Spanish and English language proficiency required;
  • Strong critical thinking and writing skills; excellent communication skills;
  • Strong staff management skills;
  • Experience creating and managing budgets;
