Position: Programme Officer (Rural)
Line Manager: Programme Manager (Rural)
Duration: 2 years with an initial probation period of six months
Location: Kathmandu with frequent travel to rural programme areas 
The selected Rural Program Officer is expected to:                                     
  • Support the Rural Programme Manager in designing and developing WASH related programs in Nepal’s rural areas
  • Provide technical backstopping to WAN’s NGO partners: i.e. provide advice in implementing sustainable and community-owned WASH programs; conduct capacity building work to ensure that all the delivered programs comply with WAN’s norms and standards.
  • Support Rural Programme Manager for effective management of all donor contracts
  • Support in achieving the results in the field as per agreed frameworks 
Expected qualifications and traits: 
  • At least a graduate in an engineering discipline or in social sciences, public health or environmental studies  
  • A minimum of three years of work experience, preferably in WASH programme development, or in monitoring and evaluation work
  • Demonstrably good-quality writing experiences: proposals, reports, concept notes
  • Fluent in spoken and written Nepali and English languages
  • Proficient in computer applications (fluent in using word processing, spreadsheet and presentation software)
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Self-motivated with a high learning ability
  • Delivery-focused and able to work without much supervision
  • Committed to making a difference in the lives of people by working hard behind the scenes so that they have access to safe water, sanitation and hygiene
Position: Communications Officer
Line Manager: Research and Advocacy Manager
Duration:  2 years with an initial probation period of six months
Location: Kathmandu with occasional travel to programme sites
The selected Communications Officer is expected:         
  • To assist the Research and Advocacy Manager to design and develop advocacy, research and campaigns programmes (by working as a member of a four-person team)
  • To engage with online, print, electronic and social media to communicate WAN’s and WAN’s partners’ works to donors, regulators, peer institutions and the public at large
  • To amplify the voices of the marginalized communities with whom WAN works through effective use of the media so that policymakers, CA members and decision makers listen to the concerns of the neglected people who demand WASH services
  • To help sensitize the media on aspects of WASH and broader development issues
Expected qualifications and traits:
  • At least a graduate in the social sciences, mass communications or a related field
  • A minimum of 3 years of working experience in institutional communications
  • Excellent writing skills in English and Nepali; excellent presentation skills, with a good sense of design
  • Professional familiarity with Nepal’s print, electronic and online journalists
  • Proficient in using Web 2.0 tools (blogs, wikis, podcast, videos) for institutional communications
  • Ability to provide support and training to colleagues, NGO partners and the media outlets
  • Proficient knowledge of office-related computer applications.
  • Fluency in English and Nepali languages

Position: Finance Assistant
Line Manager: Finance Officer-Partner Monitoring & Support
Duration: 2 years with an initial probation period of six monthsDuty Station: Kathmandu, with frequent travel to WAN partners’ offices and programme sites 
The selected Finance Assistant
 is expected to: 
  • Assist the Finance Officer in timely receipt of monthly financial reports, fund transfer requests from WAN partners and process routine partners’ related financial work.
  • Accurately prepare and upload partners’ monthly expense templates.
  • Support the Finance Officer in carrying out monitoring visits to partners’ offices and project areas
  • Maintain and file vouchers and financial documents in an organized manner.
  • Demonstrate and use skills in MS excel in entering, presenting, analyzing, and interpreting data for internal audience
  • Write up short financial reports.
Position: Account Assistant
Line Manager: Finance Officer
Duration: 2 years with an initial probation period of six months
Duty Station: Kathmandu, with occasional travel to partners’ offices and programme sites
The selected Account Assistant is expected to: 
  • Handle routine office-related accounting tasks. 
  • Prepare receipt, payment and journal vouchers in a timely manner. 
  • Maintain and file vouchers and financial documents in an organized manner.
  • Prepare bank reconciliation statements in a timely manner
  • Accurately prepare and upload monthly transactions.
  • Demonstrate and use skills in MS excel in entering, presenting, analyzing, and interpreting data for internal audience.
  • Write up short financial reports

Expected qualifications and traits for both assistant positions:
 
  • Completed Intermediate level/+ 2 courses in a management discipline (Bachelor’s degree preferred)
  • At least one year of prior experience in relevant accounting work and partner monitoring work.
  • Demonstrated ability to carry out assigned tasks thoroughly, pleasantly, professionally and without close supervision
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate orally and in writing, in English and Nepali languages.
  • Willing to learn new finance-related IT systems and procedures.
  • Proficient in using word processing, spreadsheet and presentation software.
