Senior Financial Accountant

The Financial Reporting team is part of the Controller’s Group. The Primary roles and responsibilities of the Financial Reporting team are:
External group reporting related tasks:
Preparation of the Group’s Annual Report, Red Book, Press Release and various other statutory filings (20-F, 6-K, etc.)
Accounting and Reporting of certain central entities and all treasury entities
Governance and Compliance, risk management for Treasury Operations and Financial Reporting
KPMG relationship

Regional support for group accounting questions
Act as primary contact for region / area assigned
Review of figures submitted by markets
Provide support for market initiatives
Technical support and review of projects that impact external figures
Drive group level initiatives and engage with markets


Dimensions of the role

b) Market Complexity 
Diageo operates in over 180 markets around the world. With production sites in Global Supply, international operations (complex foreign exchange accounting) and complex tax and treasury activities, Diageo’s consolidation is complex. Almost every change to IFRS has some impact on Diageo’s accounting and reporting.
As a leading UK and European consumer goods business, Diageo's annual reporting is monitored by regulators, standard setters and peers for technical compliance, style and approach. Diageo is also registered on the New York stock exchange and is subject to SEC regulation and
review.

c) Leadership Responsibilities 
Has the responsibility to maintain the accounts of complex Treasury / central entities review the accounts and reporting of the companies, expected to participate in or lead projects that has impact on the group accounts, participation in the preparation of Diageo’s group accounts. Compliance with policies and controls need to be ensured.


Top 3-5 accountabilities


This role supports the accurate and timely reporting of external financial statements and reports by:
 

  • Execute the operational tasks - timely and accurate production of SAP monthly and quarterly closing tasks; clearings, manual journals, GL reconciliations
  • Support the preparation of accounting papers supporting Diageo’s accounting treatment on complex accounting issues
  • Participating in the preparation of the Group Annual Report, 20F and 6-K
  • Producing and explaining accurate, effective and timely reporting of Treasury / central entities
  • Producing management and statutory accounts of certain Treasury entities, and treasury sections of the Group’s annual report and half year results
  • Liaise with operating companies and Group tax regarding treasury/financial reporting issues/projects.
  • Understand and monitor all treasury transactions (and their accounting impacts) flowing through the companies.
  • Support the improvement and rationalisation of accounting and reporting of the entities
  • Support the Financial Reporting Junior Manager / Financial Reporting Manager in projects
  • Compliance with relevant controls.


Qualifications and experience required


Qualifications:


  • Recognised qualification in economic or financial studies, or local equivalent
Experience:
  • At least 3 years working experience in a multinational corporate environment
  • Experience with accounting and reporting (GA, RTR experience is an advantage
  • Experience with projects is an advantage
