Project Description:
The Global Public-Private Partnership for Handwashing (PPPHW) is a global partnership that promotes handwashing as a public health intervention to reduce illness and death due to diarrhea and pneumonia, especially in children under 5. Established in 2001, the PPPHW advocates for handwashing among donors, governments, and other actors in the water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) sector. The PPPHW also provides thought leadership by tracking and sharing best practices.
Additional Responsibilities:
The Secretariat Coordinator manages the Global Public-Private Partnership for Handwashing (PPPHW) activities and coordinates input and approval from the 10-person PPPHW Steering Committee. Responsibilities include:
  • Provide ongoing programmatic; management; and financial oversight of the PPPHW
  • Lead strategy and workplan development and implementation for the PPPHW
  • Serve as primary relationship manager for 10 steering committee members
  • Convene and facilitate two Steering Committee meetings each year
  • Manage the PPPHW budget, including partner cash and in-kind contributions
  • Lead fundraising plans and efforts
  • Represent the PPPHW and give presentations on the PPPHW and handwashing at international conference and events
  • Manage the PPPHW Communications Specialist
  • Manage all PPPHW procurement efforts and consultants
  • Network and engage new partners and potential funders
  • Track the latest handwashing and WASH sector developments including new evidence, major handwashing program activities and results, and donor and government actions
  • Lead planning for Global Handwashing Day, held each year on October 15
  • Advocate for handwashing with key public and private stakeholders
  • Plan and host technical discussions and events
  • Represent the PPPHW on relevant WASH-related committees and working groups
  • Ensure regular reports on PPPHW progress to Steering Committee and mailing list
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree or its international equivalent in Public Health or other related field; MS/MA preferred plus a minimum of 10 years’ experience with program management and international development programs; or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience sufficient to successfully perform the key responsibilities of the job.
  • Experience in of the international water, sanitation and hygiene sector; familiarity with key international WASH entities
  • Experience developing or managing public-private or other partnerships preferred;
  • Experience managing donor funded projects;
  • Fundraising experience and track record
  • Advocacy experience
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills;
  • Excellent Written and verbal English required
  • Strong facilitation and presentation skills
  • Relevant computer software skills required;
  • Demonstrated creativity and initiative
  • Ability to work independently with initiative to manage high volume work flow; may structure work of staff members;
  • Overseas field experience preferred.
