Lab Intern, Acacia Vineyard

Diageo Chateau & Estate Wines owns several wineries within California on the Central Coast to Northern Napa County. Our primary focus is to produce quality wines by selecting top vineyards and fruit from various sub-appellations.  Each winery showcases a unique personality and contributes to Diageo’s passion for being the best and the industry leader.  Our wineries include Sterling Vineyards, Beaulieu Vineyard, Provenance Vineyards, Acacia Vineyard, Chalone Vineyard, Blossom Hill Winery, and Rosenblum Cellars.

Purpose of Role:   
The basic purpose of the internship is to provide a learning experience in the field of laboratory or enology (by teaching our lab practices using theoretical and hands-on experience). The overall goal would be to have a symbiotic relationship where we can provide inters with new tools and philosophies, while at the same time benefitting by learning from the intern about new techniques, research, and ideas from their recent education. 

Key Outputs:      
Harvest Interns will be fully trained in all laboratory equipment and will work in a fast paced environment with daily deadlines. Interns will work in the laboratory as well as in the cellar.
· Perform analysis using equipment such as FTIR, Discrete analyzer, auto titrator, spectrophotometer and alcolyzer. Perform manual analysis such as titrations.
· Perform routine juice and wine analyses including pH, TA, brix, alcohol, ammonia, free and total sulfur, VA, residual sugars and various other analyses. Expected to read and interpret analytical results accurately and efficiently.
· Daily brix and temperature monitoring on fermenting tanks and barrels.
· Preparation of reagents, enzymes, standards.
· Assist with wine and juice sampling, data submissions, data entry.
· Understand and abide by safety guidelines and laboratory procedures. 

Qualifications and Experience Required:
· Degree in or currently enrolled in Enology, Viticulture, or related scientific field. Demonstrated commitment to the wine industry.
· Previous winery experience is desired, but not required.
· Ability to work as a dynamic and contributing team member in a fast-paced environment.
· Excellent communication skills; can communicate effectively in English.
· Strong organizational and problem-solving skill; ability to manage priorities and workflow.
· Must be computer literate, with proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
· Must have a good driving record, dependable transportation, and be of legal drinking age.
· Must work over-time as required.
· Ability to build great relationships with team members.
· Ability to lift 40 pounds.
