Grower Relations Intern

Diageo Chateau & Estate Wines owns several wineries within California from the Central Coast to Northern Napa County. Our primary focus is to produce quality wines by selecting top vineyards and fruit from various sub-appellations> Each winery showcases a unique personality and contributes to Diageo’s passion for being the best and the industry leader. Our wineries include: Sterling Vineyard, Provenance Vineyards, Acacia Vineyard, Chalone Vineyard, Blossom Hill Winery and Rosenblum Cellars.
Position Summary
· Under direction of Grower Relations Manager for region
Goals
· The basic purpose of the internship is to provide a learning experience in the field of viticulture and grower relations
- by teaching viticultural practices using theoretical hands-on experience
- by teaching relationship building between internal and external business partners
- by exposing student to contract negotiations, supply planning and grape market indicators
Core Duties
· Support Grower Relations by collecting and reporting crop estimates from contract growers
· Assist with data management
· Field checking – Monitor for pest/disease
· Report data remotely using PDA in Crop Trak
· Assist with contract set-up in system
· Assist with scheduling during harvest
Qualifications
· Degree in or currently enrolled in Enology, Viticulture or related scientific field; demonstrated commitment to the wine industry.
· Ability to work as a dynamic and contributing team member in a fast-paced environment.
· Excellent communication skills; can communicate effectively in English.
· Strong organizational and problem-solving skills; ability to manage priorities and workflow.
· Must be able to work independently.
· Must be computer literate, with proficiency in Microsoft Office products.
· Must have good driving record, dependable transportation and be of legal drinking age.
· Must work over-time as required.
· Ability to build great relationships with team members and growers.
Ability to lift 40 pounds.
