Development Volunteer

Reporting Unit/Supervisor:  Development/Data Management Coordinator
Location:  Washington, DC
Duration: 3 months with potential to extend, minimum 20 hours per week

I. TECHNOSERVE BACKGROUND:

II. POSITION DESCRIPTION:

TechnoServe is seeking a volunteer to support the Development Team by providing a wide range of database, research, administrative and general support.  In return, TechnoServe will provide the volunteer an opportunity to gain experience and familiarity with areas such as fundraising, philanthropy, international development and an overview of the day to day operations of a global nonprofit.  The Development Volunteer will report to the Data Management Coordinator and will support the entire development team.  
Responsibilities to include:
  • Assist the development staff in entering data into Raiser’s Edge, donor database
  • Conduct research on potential donors, strategic partners, markets and industries
  • Prepare reports and presentations for internal and external use
  • Draft correspondence, proposals and appeals
  • Assist development staff in planning donor events
  • Maintain donor files and development materials
  • Attend department staff meetings
  • Assist with special projects as needed

III. REQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:

  • Strong writing and research abilities
  • Desire to learn more about fundraising and philanthropy
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
  • Experiences with databases a plus
  • Good interpersonal skills and attention to detail
  • Commitment to TechnoServe’s mission and values
  • Volunteer must provide thier own laptop
